Farman by Ahmad Shah Durrani

Date 16 Shavval 1167 / 6.8.1754 - 6.8.1754
Content This early decree by Ahmad Khan (Shah) Durrani addresses a group of tribal leaders from the Kukalan in Khurasan who came to his court to seek confirmations (arqam) of royal support. Ahmad Shah uses the opportunity to stress the right to jihad and to criticise the wrongful pressure exercised by the Safavid rulers on the Sunni community (as in the placement of Qizilbash troops in Afghanistan). He expresses his hope to take possession of Iranian territory after the conquest of Mashhad. Remaining captives from the period of Nadir Shah in Mashhad are to be freed. The addressees are admonished to follow their religious duties and not to intervene in any military moves.
